Why Am I Waking Up at 4am Thinking About School?

You wake up at 4 or 5am and school is already in your head.

Tomorrow’s lesson. That pupil. Something you forgot to do.

Your alarm hasn’t even gone off yet.

I’ve worked with teachers who seem fine once they get into school, but beforehand they’re full of nerves.

They second-guess themselves and feel like they need to plan almost every inch of the lesson just to feel ready.

Maybe I’m not good enough.

Maybe I don’t really know what I’m doing.

Am I actually cut out for this?

Sometimes all that extra preparation still doesn’t make you feel any more ready.

If you’re waking up with dread, your body can already be in overdrive before the day has even started.

You can feel like you’re in survival mode before you’ve even got out of bed.

And that isn’t sustainable.

One thing you could try is slowing your morning down a little.

Not reaching for school emails straight away or going through the whole day in your head before you’ve even got dressed.

Give yourself a bit of time to settle first.

How would it feel to put on the latest series that evening and actually watch it?

Not get halfway through and realise you haven’t taken any of it in because you’ve been thinking about tomorrow.

I love seeing teachers feel lighter and having more time for the things that make them happy.

If your evenings and sleep are still being taken up by school, maybe it’s time to look at what needs to change.

If you’d like some help working that out, you can book an intro call with me.
