Why Do I Feel Flat Now the School Holidays Have Started?

You have been counting down for weeks.

You hand back the last book, clear the classroom and finally get home.

Then you feel… nothing much.

Or perhaps you feel restless. You keep thinking about September. You check your emails even though you know there is probably nothing there.

It can be hard to admit that the holidays have started and you do not feel relieved.

It can be hard to admit that the holidays have started and you do not feel relieved.

School does not leave your head just because term has ended. You have spent months responding to bells, questions, problems, deadlines and people needing something from you. It makes sense that you cannot suddenly switch all of that off.

Sometimes the tiredness only shows up once you stop.

You might also notice that doing nothing feels uncomfortable. You think you should be enjoying yourself, sorting the house, seeing people or making the most of the break.

That is a lot of pressure to put on a holiday.

For today, try writing down anything about September that keeps popping into your head. Not a full to-do list. Just somewhere to leave those thoughts so you do not have to keep holding them.

Then leave the page alone.

Head over to my social media and this post and come back to it when you catch yourself wondering why you are not feeling better yet.

And if you are noticing that school still has a grip on you, even when you are away from it, you can book an intro call. We can talk about what has been going on and what support might actually feel useful.
