What is Counselling?
|
Counselling is a talking therapy that allows people to explore the difficulties they are facing and any uncomfortable emotions that often accompany them.

Society has been known to promote the stiff upper lip encouraging self-reliance and not expressing emotion when we struggle. Having someone there to listen to you talk about your feelings is invaluable. Whilst people find some comfort in sharing with those around them, the relationship they have with others may be a barrier when needing to openly explore their struggles. This is the benefit of talking to a therapist who is essentially a stranger there to listen without judgement.
Counselling can mean different things to different people but it is usually accessed when a person wants to change something in their lives, to better understand their situation and to find new ways of coping. It is not a one size fits all approach and work will be tailored to you and meeting your needs, there are various ways this can be offered; face to face, online or using the telephone.
If you choose to work with me I believe it is my role to encourage you to explore what is bothering you, not to give you the answers, as in my view you are an expert on yourself. It is you that will know when enough is enough, when life gets on top of you, with feeling low, anxious or have trouble sleeping. You don't have to put up with this, counselling could help you.
