Safe, confidential, person to person counselling |
|
Talking about your thoughts and feelings can help you deal with times when you feel troubled about something. If you keep the worry to yourself it can go over and over in your mind, the worry can grow. Face to face counselling can help you work out what is really bothering you and explore what you could do about it.
Some people need person to person interaction to be in the same room, able to see body language, and vocal time for support to be effective. For many people, setting aside a time and place to access counselling enables them to have some downtime where they can focus on themselves.
Face to face counselling involves making an appointment with a counsellor and agreeing to meet in a private and confidential environment. Face to face sessions are popular because they allow emotions to be responded to as they happen.
Sometimes when talking face to face people can find themselves a little stuck, not able to find the words to express what is going on for them. This is the reason I work creatively, for me it is a way of finding the right a approach for each person, to explore what works and speaks to them. This could be using a sand tray, allowing people to " step out" of the difficulty they are facing and work with representations or visual images to consider other perspectives.
The use of art materials can provide an alternative way of working, sometimes emotions are hard to reach because the brain is defending people from becoming vulnerable, it is a non-threatening way of managing the feeling of being stuck, they can be used to help people explore where they see themselves in relation to others, and also to support them with coming back to the here and now if feeling overwhelmed.
